Gypsum Ceilings & Partitions in Malta

Gypsum boards (drywall) allow us to create elegant ceiling designs, bulkheads, recessed lighting zones, archways and room dividers without the weight and time of traditional masonry. This gives interiors a polished, modern look and allows flexibility in how spaces are used and lit.

We design and construct all types of gypsum ceilings — from simple flat ceilings to multi-level coffered designs with hidden LED lighting strips and integrated downlights. We also install suspended tile ceilings (grid systems) commonly used in offices, retail units and commercial spaces. For high-humidity environments such as basement levels, maisonettes and outdoor facades, we specialise in the installation of premium exterior aqua boards (including BoardeX) designed to effectively block moisture and ensure lasting structural integrity.

Why It Matters

Gypsum ceilings are installed after rough electrical is done, so that cabling to downlights and LED channels can be neatly concealed. We coordinate the layout with the lighting plan to make sure every recessed light and strip is perfectly positioned before the boards go up.

They refer to the same product — a gypsum core sandwiched between paper liner boards. "Plasterboard" and "drywall" are common alternative names for the same material. We use the term gypsum board in Malta as it is the most widely recognised locally.

Yes — we install 12.5mm or 15mm boards on a galvanised steel framework rated to support multiple downlights and their fixings. Downlight positions are coordinated with the electrical layout before the boards go up.

Always. Standard gypsum boards must not be used in wet areas. We use moisture-resistant (green) boards in bathrooms and exterior-grade aqua boards (such as BoardeX) where humidity levels are high or external applications are required.

In Malta, gypsum work is considered complete when the boards are up, jointed, plastered and sanded smooth — ready for painting. A full 3-bedroom apartment typically takes 8–12 days in total, depending on the ceiling design complexity and number of rooms.

Yes — double-boarded partitions filled with acoustic insulation batts significantly reduce airborne noise transmission between rooms. The framing, board specification and insulation all contribute to the final acoustic performance.
